Kasey’s Story

Kasey is six. The little girl’s mother left when Kasey was 3, and she lived with her father. He was a drug addict, with a history of childhood abuse. He neglected and abused Kacey, and she entered the foster care system to keep her safe.

Sally, a child advocate, was assigned to help Kasey. Sally met with Kasey several times, and Kasey trusted her. Sally looked over the Kasey’s records. She figured out what Kasey needed while she was in foster care and what she needed for her best future.

Sally recommended to the judge that Kasey receive counseling to help her deal with the abuse she suffered. She also recommended that Kasey be placed with an aunt, who lived nearby and provided a safe and stable home. The judge used Sally’s recommendations to decide that Kasey would be placed in the home of her aunt and receive counseling.

Because of Sally’s efforts, Kasey is a happy, thriving little girl, free from abuse. Without Sally, Kasey might have had to go through a lengthy and difficult trial. She could have stayed in the foster care system for a long time. She probably would not have received other supportive services, like the counseling that helped her so much.

Child advocates work. Kids will have an adult they trust who will not give up on them, but always look out for their best interest to make their lives safe and happy.
